I noted this to my friends as he was making his speech during the awards - that I thought he was likely the first black man to win a screenwriting Academy Award.  via popculturebrain: stayforthecredits: oldfilmsflicker:

you know what I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere? this man, Geoffrey Fletcher, is the first African-American to win an Oscar for Screenwriting. he’s also only one in 6 to ever be nominated in either writing category and the first to be nominated in nearly 20 years.
