Places in the Heart, 1984.
I’m going to write something longer for Lone Star Cinema on Slackerwood, but it probably won’t include all this:
So many feelings and memories tied up with this movie. At one point during my viewing of the movie tonight something reminded me of my “aunt” Euna*, one of my favorite relatives who died some years ago. I think it was the earrings that Margaret wears to a dance that brought her to mind. Plus the fact that the film is based in Depression era Texas, and Euna was a young lady in Telephone** at that time, I believe.
Anyway, that made me start to feel maudlin and then the last scene made me bawl. I knew what was coming and it still hit me.
If I had a “My emotions! My emotions!” gif of Troy from Community, I’d stick it right here.
*really my great-grandfather’s sister, so technically my great-great aunt
**yes, there is a town named Telephone in Texas.
