Curious…
Which TV show did the “male and female agents go undercover pretending to be married in the suburbs” concept first? I thought Alias had the idea and Chuck copied it, but I’m streaming Scarecrow and Mrs. King and it’s in the plot of the second episode. And this show is about 20 years older than Alias.
So this makes me wonder, did another show do it before this ’80s-era series?

How about “Get Smart”? Maxwell Smart and Agent 99 frequently posed as a married couple (and eventually actually did get married). Not quite “suburban”, maybe, but Max’s longstanding front as a greeting card company salesman was pretty great.

There’s an X-Files where Mulder and Scully do it too! Season 6 I believe, which would put it at ~1999
