“The endgame is that, in the name of making ourselves safer, we may only be further isolating ourselves from a world that already views us with suspicion.”

In Your Eyes Wordled
Okay, this is the last one for today (maybe): “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel. I love the ginormous vertical “eyes”!

I tried doing Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek”, but it didn’t look great, so I went with Stars’ “Elevator Love Letter.” [Wordle]

So Amazon is becoming even more like the WalMart... →
“The struggle comes at a time that Amazon’s power as a bookseller is increasing, with sales growing online in an otherwise tepid global book market. Some publishers fear that with the introduction of Amazon’s Kindle electronic reader, the company will rise into a position to be able to demand more concessions.”

That won't take much.
Best spam subject line ever (maybe)? “BE COOLER THAN THE CHARACTERS IN THE FILM “OCEAN’S THIRTEEN” and inside there is a link and then “ONE HAS TO TAKE RISKS SOMETIME IN HIS LIFE!” Yeah, you’re barkin’ up the wrong tree, buddy.

I changed around my theme today… it’s now Black Tie. I really like the look, even though the title font looks a little strange.

All Clinton’s female supporters aren’t going to back McCain, so I wish the mass media wouldn’t keep spreading such false ideas. [Salon] See also: NYTimes: Angry Clinton Women ♥ McCain?

I have a feeling he actually said "pop-rock band."... →
I noticed the same thing, and considered sending a correction to the Times (I have done it before). But I decided it wasn’t worth it. From paultough: “‘We are not a boy band in the traditional sense,’ Kevin said. ‘We don’t dance or have synchronized moves. We are a pop-rock bank.’”

TIME: Why Didn't More Women Vote for Hillary? →
Exactly! Optimist feminists, on the other hand, don’t question that a woman can become President or that it will occur in their lifetime… And they don’t want to rally behind a female candidate simply because she is a woman. Women often tell me it’s important to get more of them elected so they can change the tenor of politics. But that goal has faced some tough choices in...

NY Times: Media Charged With Sexism in Clinton... →
Dude, I’m an Obama supporter and I still think the coverage of Hillary tended towards sexist at times. Candy Crowley, covering the campaign for CNN, said that for the most part, she did not see a drumbeat of sexism in the daily reporting, “but I certainly did see it in the commentary.”I was going to Digg this article, but the comments there pissed me off too much.

Realization
I have come to the realization that at this point in my life, I have more friends (not just acquaintances) than I’ve ever had before. It’s a good problem to have, but I feel like I don’t contact some of my older friends as often as I should. I used to be the one who was always responsible for keeping in contact with a friend, but I am not doing so well with that as I used to.

Kathleen Sebelius, Completing The Obama Puzzle →
Indeed, with Obama beginning the arduous process of choosing his number two, Sebelius — who, sources say, enjoys a warm relationship with Obama and would take the job — presents a heap of electoral promise but with small but significant question marks.

Rural U.S. Takes Worst Hit as Gas Tops $4 Average →
“This crisis really impacts those who are at the economic margins of society, mostly in the rural areas and particularly parts of the Southeast,” said Fred Rozell, retail pricing director at the Oil Price Information Service, a fuel analysis firm. “These are people who have to decide between food and transportation.” (with my emphasis bolded).

Keeping things in moderation: The HIMYM Emmy event →
Barney and Robin as a couple wasn’t part of the original plan, but once they saw how Neil Patrick Harris and Cobie played off each other in “Zip, Zip, Zip” (the Laser Tag episode), the writers started contemplating it. NPH is very conscious of not defanging Barney, and Carter said they’re going to approach whatever happens with those two with their chief goal being to not...
